🎄 Things to Do in Mallorca in December – Winter Charm on the Island
December in Mallorca might not be the first month that comes to mind for a Mediterranean escape — but honestly, it’s one of the most underrated times to visit. The island slows down a bit, the beaches are peaceful, and there’s something magical about wandering around Palma’s old streets lit up with Christmas lights.
I’ve always loved this time of year on the island. The air is crisp (but rarely freezing), locals are out shopping for festive treats, and mountain villages like Valldemossa and Sóller look straight out of a Christmas postcard.
If you’re planning to visit during this time, here are the best things to do in Mallorca in December, from festive fairs to cultural highlights and cosy winter walks. Also check out my post on Winter in Mallorca for even more tips!
1️⃣ 🎅 See the Christmas Lights & Markets in Palma
When Palma’s Christmas lights turn on (usually in late November), the city transforms. The whole of Passeig del Born, Avinguda Jaume III, and Plaça Major glows in gold and white. Grab a hot chocolate, wander through the Christmas market in Plaça Major, and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

🎁 Tip: Pick up local treats like turrón, neules, or handmade ornaments — they make perfect souvenirs.
👉 You can also join a Palma Christmas lights walking tour for a guided evening through the prettiest streets.
2️⃣ 🐷 Experience Traditional Village Fairs
December is the season for firas — local fairs where you’ll find crafts, dancing, live music, and amazing food.
✨ Don’t miss:
Fira de Santa Bàrbara in Vilafranca de Bonany (early December)
Fira de Sant Tomàs / Mostra de Matances in Sineu (around 7 December), celebrating the ancient pig-slaughter tradition with rustic dishes and music.

3️⃣ ⛪ Attend Midnight Mass & The Song of the Sibyl
One of Mallorca’s most unique Christmas Eve traditions is El Cant de la Sibil·la, a hauntingly beautiful medieval chant performed at matins on the night of 24 December in churches across the island.
The most famous takes place at La Seu Cathedral in Palma — it’s breathtaking. Arrive early, as it fills up quickly!

4️⃣ 🎢 Ice Rinks & Festive Fun for Families
Even though it doesn’t snow here, you’ll still find plenty of winter magic. In Palma, you can skate at the ice rink near Parc de Ses Estacions, and smaller towns like Inca or Manacor often set up mini Christmas villages.
🎠 There are also funfairs, food trucks, and small pop-up markets in mid-December — perfect for families.
🧤 Don’t forget a warm jacket for evening strolls! You can find stylish winter gear on Amazon.
5️⃣ 🎇 Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Palma
If you’re in Mallorca for New Year’s Eve (Nochevieja), Palma is the place to be.
Locals gather in Plaça Cort and along Passeig del Born to welcome the New Year with fireworks and live music. Don’t forget the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight — one for each clock chime for good luck! 🍇
✨ Earlier that day, Palma celebrates the Festa de l’Estandart, a historic festival dating back to the 1200s.

6️⃣ 🌿 Enjoy Scenic Walks & Quiet Beach Days
December is a peaceful time for exploring nature. You can enjoy crisp coastal walks in Port de Pollença, hike through Albufera Natural Park, or visit charming towns like Valldemossa and Deià without the summer crowds.

✅ Final Thoughts
Mallorca in December is a different kind of paradise — festive, authentic, and refreshingly peaceful. You’ll find fewer tourists, real local traditions, and plenty of cozy charm.
So pack your jacket, join the locals at a Christmas market, and toast the New Year under the Mediterranean lights. ✨
