Best Water Sports in Mallorca (Where to Try Them Around the Island)
Mallorca isn’t just about beaches and sunshine. Once you spend a bit of time here, you realise the sea is basically the island’s playground. From calm turquoise coves to windy bays perfect for sailing and kitesurfing, there’s a water sport here for pretty much everyone.
I’ve tried quite a few of them over the years and the best part about Mallorca is that every side of the island offers something different. The south has calm waters and big beaches, the north gets more wind, and the east coast has loads of hidden coves.
If you’re planning a trip, these are some of the best water sports in Mallorca and where to try them.
🚤 Jet Skiing in Mallorca
Jet skiing is easily one of the most popular water sports on the island, especially during summer. It’s fast, loud, and honestly just a lot of fun.
Most jet ski tours follow the coastline, where you get to see cliffs, caves, and small coves that you’d never reach by land. It’s also a surprisingly good way to explore parts of the coast quickly if you don’t want to rent a full boat for the day.
One of the best areas to try it is Playa de Palma, where jet ski excursions run daily and often take you along the coast towards the nature reserve areas. Another great spot is Alcúdia Bay, where the water is usually calmer and the scenery is incredible.
Most tours last between 30 minutes and an hour, which is usually enough unless you’re a total adrenaline junkie.

🪂 Parasailing
Parasailing is one of those activities that looks a bit intimidating from the beach, but once you’re up there, it’s actually pretty relaxing.
You’re lifted high above the water by a parachute attached to a speedboat, which gives you a huge panoramic view of the coastline. On clear days, you can see miles across the island and sometimes even spot dolphins swimming below.
Popular spots for parasailing include Magaluf and Cala Millor, where large sandy beaches make launching easy and safe.
It’s also one of the few water sports you can do as a couple or small group, so it works well if you’re travelling with friends.

🤿 Scuba Diving
Mallorca is actually a fantastic diving destination and a lot of people don’t realise it until they try it.
The island has several protected marine reserves, which means the underwater life is surprisingly rich. Visibility is often excellent, especially around rocky areas where fish hide between cliffs and caves.
Some of the best diving locations include the El Toro Marine Reserve, which is famous for large fish and crystal clear water, and Cabrera National Park, where the underwater environment is protected and incredibly well preserved.
Even if you’ve never dived before, many centres offer beginner “discover scuba” sessions where an instructor guides you the whole time.

🐠 Snorkelling
If you want something more relaxed, snorkelling is easily one of the best ways to explore Mallorca’s water.
Some of the clearest water around the island is found in small rocky coves where fish gather near the cliffs. The visibility is often amazing, especially early in the morning when the sea is calm.
Great snorkelling spots include Cala Varques, Cala Santanyí, and Camp de Mar.
Many boat trips stop in hidden coves where you can jump in and snorkel away from crowded beaches, which honestly makes the experience much better.

🛶 Kayaking
Kayaking along Mallorca’s coastline is one of the most underrated activities on the island.
Paddling along the cliffs lets you explore sea caves, hidden beaches, and quiet coves that are impossible to reach by car. Some caves are big enough to kayak right inside, which is pretty cool the first time you do it.
The north coast around Port de Pollença and Cala Sant Vicenç is particularly good because the coastline is dramatic and full of caves.
Guided tours usually include swimming stops and sometimes snorkelling gear as well.

🏄 Paddle Boarding (SUP)
Stand-up paddleboarding has become really popular in Mallorca over the last few years.
The water here is usually calm in the mornings, which makes it perfect for beginners. You can just slowly paddle along the coast, explore small beaches, and enjoy the views without needing much experience.
Great spots to try paddleboarding include Portixol, Cala Blava, and Playa de Palma.
Some boat tours also include paddle boards so you can jump in and explore quiet bays.

🪁 Kitesurfing & Windsurfing
Out of all the water sports in Mallorca, this one is probably my favourite.
I’ve tried a lot of them here, but kitesurfing is the one that really hooks you. There’s something about riding the wind across the water that’s addictive once you get the hang of it.
The best place for it on the island is Pollença Bay, which gets consistent wind and has plenty of open space to ride. It’s one of the top spots in Mallorca for both beginners and experienced riders.
I actually have a few friends who started a surf school there called Mallorca Kiteboarding School, so I’ve spent quite a few days around that area watching lessons and riders flying across the bay.
If you’re curious about learning, this is definitely one of the best places on the island to start.

🚤 Boat Trips & Catamaran Tours
Not technically a sport, but honestly one of the best ways to enjoy Mallorca’s coastline.
Many boat tours include swimming stops, snorkelling gear, paddle boards, and sometimes food and drinks on board. It’s a great way to spend a full day on the water without needing any experience.
The Bay of Palma is one of the most popular areas for these trips because it’s easy to reach from the city and the coastline is beautiful.

Final Thoughts
One of the best things about Mallorca is that the sea isn’t just something you look at from the beach. It’s something you actually use.
You can spend the morning paddle boarding along calm coves, go jet skiing in the afternoon, and finish the day watching kitesurfers ride the wind across the bay.
And if you’re here long enough, chances are you’ll end up finding a favourite water sport of your own.
For me, it’s still kitesurfing.
