🧺 Markets in Mallorca: A Local’s Guide to the Island’s Best Markets

If there’s one thing Mallorca does exceptionally well (besides beaches and sunshine 🌞), it’s markets. From fresh produce and local crafts to flowers, fashion, antiques, and handmade treats, the markets here capture the soul of island life. And trust me — after living in Sineu and a few nearby villages, the markets became part of my weekly rhythm.

Confession time: I may have snuck out of school in Sineu more than once just to wander the stalls… but let’s keep that between us 😄.

Whether you're planning a holiday or exploring the island already, here’s your complete guide to the best markets in Mallorca, when to visit, what to expect, and insider tips to make the most of your day.

🐴 Sineu Market — The Most Authentic Market in Mallorca

Market day: Wednesday

Sineu Market is the oldest and most traditional market on the island, and it shows — in the best possible way. Set in the heart of the island, this weekly market has been running for over 700 years.

What you’ll find:

  • Fresh produce from local farmers 🍅

  • Cheese, sobrasada, olives, and traditional Mallorcan treats

  • Handmade ceramics and crafts

  • Livestock area (yes, real animals! goats, sheep, pony rides 🐐)

  • Leather goods and artisan products

Local tip: Come early (before 10:00) to avoid the crowds and enjoy coffee in the main square. If you're driving, park just outside the village and walk in — the side streets get packed.

🌴 Santanyí Market — Chic, Stylish & Full of Mediterranean Charm

Market days: Wednesday & Saturday

The Santanyí market is one of the most beautiful markets in Mallorca. Its golden-stone streets fill with colourful textiles, stylish clothing, baskets, jewellery, and gourmet food stalls.

What stands out:

  • Artisan jewellery and boho fashion 👗

  • Organic food stalls and Mallorcan products

  • Gorgeous cafés and brunch spots around the square

  • Artistic boutiques open on market mornings

Local tip: Make it a full day out — after the market, drive 10 minutes to Cala Santanyí, Cala Llombards, or the breathtaking Es Pontàs viewpoint.

🐓 Inca Market — The Largest Market in Mallorca

Market day: Thursday

Inca is known as the leather capital of Mallorca, so this market is ideal if you want shoes, belts, jackets, or handmade bags.

Market highlights:

  • Tons of leather shops & stalls 👜

  • Local fruit, vegetables & spices

  • Household items & traditional crafts

  • Huge size — this one keeps you busy!

Local tip: Visit iconic leather brands like Camper or Munper afterwards — many have outlets with discounts.

🍊 Pollensa Market — Traditional Meets Scenic

Market day: Sunday

The Sunday market in Pollensa is as pretty as the town itself. Nestled between stone houses and narrow streets, the atmosphere feels warm and relaxed.

What you’ll find:

  • Fresh local produce 🍋

  • Handmade soaps, oils, and crafts

  • Art prints and ceramics

  • Live music and local artists

Local tip: Walk up the 365 Calvari Steps afterward for views worth the climb.

🌊 Alcudia Market — Family-Friendly & Lively

Market days: Tuesday & Sunday

Held near the old walled town, Alcudia Market is perfect for families staying in the northern resorts.

What to expect:

  • Clothing, shoes & accessories 👟

  • Fresh fruits and pastries

  • Toys and handmade items

  • Street-food style bites

Local tip: After shopping, explore the medieval walls or hop on a bus to the beach.

🌿 Santa Catalina Market — Palma’s Fresh Food Hub

Market days: Monday–Saturday (daily food market)

Santa Catalina is Palma’s most vibrant neighbourhood, and its market is a favourite for locals and foodies.

What you’ll find:

  • Fresh fish, produce, and local delicacies 🐟

  • Craft beer, organic products & spices

  • Little tapas bars inside the market

  • Perfect brunch spots afterwards

Local tip: Go for a mid-morning bite — try a freshly made tortilla or oysters with cava.

🌅 Andratx Market — Great for Fashion & Textiles

Market day: Wednesday

The Andratx market sits in a charming inland town surrounded by rolling hills. It’s especially good for clothing, textiles, and local produce.

What you'll find:

  • Clothing stalls with good prices 👚

  • Fruit, vegetables & olive products

  • Art and pottery

  • A calm, non-touristy atmosphere

Local tip: Combine your visit with a trip to Port d’Andratx for lunch by the harbour.

🏺 Palma Old Town Markets — Boutique, Local & Atmospheric

Palma also hosts several smaller artisan and flea markets depending on the season. Look out for:

  • Plaça Major craft market

  • Ecological food market at Plaça dels Patins

  • Vintage/second-hand pop-ups

They’re perfect if you’re staying in the city.

🌟 Final Thoughts: Why Mallorca’s Markets Are Worth Exploring

Mallorca’s markets aren’t just places to shop — they’re living, breathing pieces of the island’s culture. Every village has its own rhythm, its own flavours, and its own characters who make each market feel special. Whether you’re wandering through the historic streets of Sineu, exploring the stylish corners of Santanyí, or tasting your way through Santa Catalina, you’re getting a real taste of Mallorcan life.

The best way to get to all these markets is to definitely rent a car to get there as soon as possible, before it gets busy. Check the best rental car prices here: "Discovery Cars"

Honestly, some of my favourite memories come from market days — chatting with vendors, discovering handmade treasures, or sneaking off from school to explore Sineu’s stalls. Markets here aren’t just about what you buy, but how you feel when you’re strolling between stands with the scent of fresh bread, oranges, and olive wood all around you.

If you really want to embrace Mallorca like a local, pick a few markets, rent a car, and make a full day of it. Grab some fresh fruit, try a bit of sobrasada, pick up a handmade basket… and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Whether you’re here for the beaches or the mountains, the markets are where the island’s heart beats. 💛
